Before you make up your mind, there are several things to consider besides just the cost.
- Where do you or your loved one want to stay?
- Do you need help 24 hours a day, 12 hours, 8 hours, or just a couple each day?
- How far away does other family live?
- Is it practical to stay at home?
I found a nifty little article that really helps to list out the cost between assisted living or staying put in your home. What the article does not take into account however, is the added costs of staying at home besides just the in home care. Is your home paid for? What is the cost of utilities, food, insurance, property tax, etc. All of this must come into play, but if the home is paid for, I would not imagine that other costs should exceed $1,000 - $1,500 monthly.
Here is the link to the article. I think you will find it interesting. http://www.carepathways.com/articles/what-does-home-care-cost-in-comparison-to-assisted-living.cfm.
Most older adults would like to stay in their homes. With organizations such as Seniors Helping Seniors, you or your loved one may be able to stay home for a few more years.
